Thammanoon Niyomtrong made another defense of his World Boxing Association (WBA) Minimum Super Championship with a unanimous decision over legend Chayaphon Moonsri on Wednesday in Chonburi, Thailand.
The WBA champion won via unanimous decision (116-112, 119-109 and 117-111) in a fight in which he came from less to more and knew how to decipher an opponent who gave a good performance.
The first part of the fight was very strategic. Niyomtrong looked for Moonsri, who walked the ring and used his jab well to keep the champion at a distance. In fact, the challenger started to be effective with the left hook that managed to catch the champion off balance on a few occasions.
But “Knockout CP Freshmart” began to grow as the rounds went by thanks to his pressure and combinations. The second part of the fight was a different story as he forced his opponent to be more static and to enter the exchange to give exciting moments and get the better of him thanks to his hand speed and power.
In the end he got another win which is his 15th defense since he won his first WBA title (interim) in 2014, 12th since he became champion in 2016 and fourth since he has Super Champion status (2020). He remains unbeaten in 24 fights, with 9 knockouts, while Moonsri fell to 55 wins and 3 losses.
