Venezuelan Carlos Cañizales delivered a first round knockout to veteran Armando Torres this weekend to retain the World Boxing Association (WBA) Continental Americas light flyweight belt in Mexico City.
An upper to the chin sent the Mexican to the canvas in spectacular fashion, who got up but never recovered and waited for the referee’s 10-count without getting fully upright, so the bout was stopped.
Cañizales continues on his way to a new world title shot and has proven to be a strong performer in his recent fights. The former world champion’s record improved to 25 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw, with 19 knockouts.
