Norwegian Cecilia Braekhus, former undisputed welterweight champion and one of the great legends of women’s boxing, announced that she will return to the ring boxing at 154 pounds in her quest to win the title again.

The Colombian-born fighter is historic for everything she has achieved and marked an era in the sport. Now, at 40 years of age and after a break, she feels ready to give the best of her, and her great career in the ring backs her up. 

“I fought for thirteen years as a welterweight with great success and now I am looking for the biggest fights at 154,” Braekhus assured during her training in an interview to the media. 

She also said who of the fighters in the division she would like to fight if given the opportunity. 

“Looking at the top fighters at 154, I would like to face the champions Hannah Rankin, Natasha Jonas or Marie-Eve Dicaire, there is no time to waste and I would happily fight them anywhere they want,” she continued.

Braekhus was monarch between 2009 and 2019, an extensive reign that had more than 20 title defenses. She lost her undefeated record to Jessica McCaskill three years ago and then lost to her again in a rematch during 2021. After a rest, she feels ready to return to the ring.
