The Cuadrilátero gym has been the most important gym in the history of boxing in Colombia. The venue located in the city of Barranquilla, which had been closed for the last three years, has reopened its doors to continue writing the history of the sport.
A joint effort of the businessman Saúl Ballesteros, the promoter Alberto Agámez and a series of people who have put up this project, has allowed it to be enabled again both for high performance fighters and for the general public.
Billy Chams, the most important promoter in the history of the country, founded the gym and with his company and one bearing the same name contributed to give great joy to Colombia in boxing.
Ballesteros highlighted the contribution of Chams and his appreciation for what he did, he assured that the main reason to put the gym back in operation is to pay tribute to the late promoter and continue to fulfill the dream of thousands of Colombian boxers throughout history.
Former world champion, Rober Barrera, has been working with his trainer Alberto Mercado at the gym since this week. Something that has been special for him as he prepares for his next fight, which could be in March in Medellin.
In addition to hosting Barrera’s training, different people have been taking private classes and the facility has been coming to life quickly at this stage.
The World Boxing Association celebrates the reopening of this mythical gym and hopes that it will contribute to boost of boxing in a country that has produced great warriors such as Kid Pambelé, Happy Lora, Fidel Bassa, among other greats in history.
