Mauricio Lara has said on several occasions that boxing is not something he likes the most, but his “brave blood” is what keeps him in the ring and, besides, he fights for other motivations. This Saturday he is facing his opportunity for the World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight world title against Leigh Wood and he wants to go out victorious to obtain glory in every sense of the word.

In contrast to the fact that he does not like the sport of boxing, the “Bronco” is passionate about everything that surrounds it, especially the cameras, the show and the fame that being at the top of this discipline can bring, as he told the Izquierdazo website.

That doesn’t mean that Lara is not focused on training and being the best. In fact, he has worked very hard and has proven to be a very strong opponent in the ring, which is why he will fight for the world title in Nottingham.

In his case, being a great fighter and achieving glory in the ring is a goal as an athlete, but at the same time it is a means to achieve his personal dream. He knows how to work both aspects very well and that is why he has managed to be where he with only 24 years of age.

His first notice was in 2021 when he traveled to the United Kingdom to face Josh Warrington. At the time he was an unknown, a young Mexican with a decent record going into a big challenge. But Lara showed his quality and beat the Brit in what was considered a huge upset.

There was a rematch, though. A clash of heads forced that second fight to be stopped early and it ended in a technical draw. From there, Lara has been waiting patiently for another opportunity until this moment came.

He already knows what it’s like to surprise in England, but now he faces a different challenge in Wood. He knows what he can do and what he wants to achieve. He wants to get great recognition and be a star, but the only way to do that is to be a warrior.
