Puerto Rican Jonathan Gonzalez will be going to possibly the most important fight of his career. He will challenge the World Boxing Association (WBA) light flyweight champion Kenshiro Teraji on April 8 at the Ariake Arena in Koto-Ku, Japan.
Gonzalez, WBO champion, knows the difficult challenge he faces and how significant a victory could be for Puerto Rican boxing, that’s why he is inspired by Amanda Serrano, who recently became undisputed featherweight champion and made history for her country.
“Her coronation is a boost for me too because we are the only champions in Puerto Rico right now. When she won, it gave me enthusiasm and encouragement to crown myself unified champion,” Gonzalez told El Vocero portal .
“It’s desire. It’s like an extra boost. To see a lady like her achieve what she did is great. It’s not easy. No one in the male branch has done it,” she continued.
“La Bomba,” as the 31-year-old fighter is nicknamed, has a lot of inspiration and wants to build on that to fight against the Japanese. It will not be an easy challenge but he has the tools and motivation to surprise in Asian lands.
