The clash between World Boxing Association (WBA) Minimum Super Champion Thammanoon Niyomtrong and champion Erick Rosa will define the sole champion of the division on Wednesday, March 1, in Nakhon Sawan, Thailand.
The bout is part of the WBA World Title Reduction Plan and will settle the 105 pounds, since the winner will be the only champion of this weight.
It is a generational battle, as it pits a solid, long-time champion against a youngster who has been rising fast and wants to pull off an upset as a visitor.
Niyomtrong is a champion who has faced and defeated all kinds of opponents very convincingly. The 32-year-old Thai held the interim belt since 2014, then the championship belt since 2016 and now super champion since 2020.
For his part, Rosa won his belt against Vic Saludar at the end of 2021 and for that reason he earned the opportunity to face the Asian. It is a fight in which he could take all the glory and the 22-year-old Dominican is confident in himself to take the win.
Niyomtrong has 24 wins, 0 losses and 9 knockouts, while Rosa has 5 wins, 1 of them before the limit.
