Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will return to fight in Mexico in his next defense of his undisputed super middleweight championship next May, as announced through his social networks on Monday, February 20.
The World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Champion will fight in Jalisco, the state where the Mexican idol was born, and he made this known through a video he shared with Governor Enrique Alfaro.
The announcement of the venue, the exact date and the opponent will be announced soon, but the atmosphere is already beginning to heat up for the fight and the return of “Canelo” to his country to show himself to his people.
Alvarez will fight in his country for the first time since 2011, when he made his last fight in Mexico against Puerto Rican Kerman Cintron. On that occasion he won by technical knockout at the Plaza de Toros in Mexico City.
The 32-year-old fighter is coming off a year in which he lost a bout to Dmitry Bivol in May at light heavyweight and returned to his weight class in September after surgery to defeat Gennady Golovkin.
