Former world champion Jamie Mitchell returned to the ring this Friday night and defeated Lindsay Garbatt by majority decision to capture the World Boxing Association (WBA) International bantamweight title at the Kendal G. L. Isaacs National Gymnasium in Nassau, Bahamas.
Mitchell put on an aggressive, exchange fight to get the win on the 97-93, 97-93 and 95-95 scorecards in what marked her comeback after losing her world championship.
The American was coming off a loss to Nina Hughes on Nov. 26 in Dubai. Coming back in a regional title opportunity was very important for her and getting this victory is even more satisfying for Mitchell.
They came up against a strong opponent like Canadian Garbatt who was always looking for the fight. Mitchell and Garbatt gave a very entertaining fight in which both had their moments but the American managed to get the better of most of the rounds to take the victory.
Now, Mitchell improves her record to 9 wins, 1 loss, 2 draws and 5 knockouts, while Garbatt now has a record of 9 wins, 10 losses, 2 draws and 3 knockouts.
