Mauricio Lara is preparing in Mexico City for his first defense, which will be a rematch against Leigh Wood next May 27 at the Manchester Arena.
The Mexican comes from knocking out the Briton in spectacular fashion last February 18 to capture the belt and now he knows that the responsibility is greater for him.
Lara has been in full camp during these last months and wants to retain his belt against an opponent who wants a rematch and who will be at home again, which becomes a great challenge for the Mexican fighter.
The final part of “Bronco’s” preparation is already underway and he wants to arrive in the best possible condition for the fight while trying to stay mentally sound.
“I try to keep both my feet on the ground. Being world champion is not something that has changed me for the worse, as I am still the same person. I thank the WBA, it is a pride to be champion of the first body in the world. Now I want to defend my title and keep working hard,” said the 25-year-old fighter.
Lara will travel to the UK in the coming weeks to settle in and face the second chapter of this great rivalry, which had an impressive first fight and one of the best knockouts of the year so far.
