Mexican Gabriel Gollaz Valenzuela became the new World Boxing Association (WBA) super lightweight inter-continental champion after defeating Australian Steve Spark by split decision this weekend at the Akron Stadium in Zapopan, Mexico.
The home fighter had a tough fight but in the end was the winner by a close split decision of 96-93, 95-94 and 94-95.
It was a hard fight in which both had some difficult moments but the Mexican came out on top in the eyes of the judges to win the regional belt of the pioneer organization.
The 28-year-old native of Guadalajara left his record at 27 wins, 3 losses, 1 draw and 16 knockouts. Spark dropped his record to 16 wins, 3 losses and 14 knockouts.
