Jeff Chandler was a World Boxing Association champions well known by the power in his fists and becase he was a very solid champion.
He was born in Philadelpha in 1956, and without much amateur experience he became professional in 1976, his first fight ended in a draw and there began a string of victories that ended four years later.
Undfeated in 23 fights he got the opportunity to fight for the WBA Bantamweight belt in Noviembre de 1980 with Julian Solis in Miami. “Joltin”Jeff won by TKO in round 14.
His first defense was in January 1981, before the Panamanian Jorge Lujan in Philadelphia, and won by unanimous decision 148-143, 146-143, 146-142. In April that same year, the drew in Tokyo with Eijiro Murata, and he had the rematch with Solis in July, and knocked him out in round 7, in Atlantic City; same city where in October he faced Murata for the second time and TKO’ed him in thirteenth round.
In 1983, he fought twice in 121 pound, one of them with Oscar Muniz who defeated Chandler by split decision in 10 rounds.
That same year, “Joltin” Chandler returned to his weight division and to Japan to fight Murata once again in November, whom he punished at will in the Korakuen Hall of Tokyo. He knocked the Nippon down in the second, third and tenth rounds before the referee stopped the actions.
He repeated his fight against Muñiz in Atlantic City, but knocked himout in 7 this time.
On April 1984, he jumped onto the ring Richie Sandoval who knocked him out in round 11, to anticipate the end. That was the first time Chandler was sent to the canvas, and he ended up TKO’ed at minute 1:15 of round 15, to end his reign that started on November 14, 1980.
Chandler retired at age of 28 with a record of 33-2-2, 18 KO’s.

Jeff Chandler fue uno de los campeones de la Asociación Mundial de Boxeo reconocido por su poder en los puños y su solidez como monarca.
Nació en Filadelfia en el año 1956, y sin mayor experiencia en el campo aficionado saltó al rentado para debutar en 1976, empató en su primer pleito y después comenzó una cadena de victorias que se extendió durante cuatro años.
Con 23 triunfos sin derrotas tuvo el chance de pelear en noviembre de 1980 el cinturón gallo de la AMB, cuando se midió a Julián Solís en Miami. “Joltin”Jeff ganó por nocaut técnico en el asalto número 14 del pleito pautado a 15.
Su primera defensa fue en enero de 1981, ante el panameño Jorge Lujan, en Filadelfia, donde ganó por puntos 148-143, 146-143, 146-142. En abril de ese mismo año, empató en Tokio, con Eijiro Murata, y en julio le daba la revancha a Solís a quien noqueó en el séptimo asalto de la pelea realizada en Atlantic City. Precisamente en esa ciudad, en octubre, se toparía de nuevo con Murata a quien despachó por KOT en el décimo tercer asalto.
En 1983 hizo dos peleas en las 121 libras, una de ellas con Oscar Muñiz quien derrotó a Chandler por decisión dividida después de diez vueltas.
“Joltin”Chandler volvió a su peso y a Japón para medirse nuevamente Murata, en noviembre de 1983, a quien castigó a placer en la pelea realizada en el mítico Korakuen Hall de Tokio. Mandó a la lona al nipón en el segundo, tercero y décimo round antes que el árbitro detuviese la pelea.
En diciembre, repetía ante Muñiz en Atlantic City pero esta vez noqueó en el séptimo asalto.
El 7 de abril de 1984 subió al ensogado ante Richie Sandoval quien lo tiró en el onceavo round, para anticipar el desenlace. Era la primera vez que enviaban a la lona al difícil Chandler, quien terminó derrotado por nocaut técnico al minuto con 15 segundos, del asalto número 15 para terminar así su reinado que había iniciado el 14 de noviembre de 1980.
Chandler se retiró a los 28 años de edad, y dejó 33 peleas ganadas con 18 KO, dos derrotas y dos empates.
