It has been confirmed that next Friday, May 10, the undefeated American Arnold Gonzalez will fight Esneiker Correa for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Welterweight Fedecentro title (vacant).
The 10 round 147 lbs. bout will be the main event of the evening to be held at the Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel, Niagara Falls, New York, United States. It is worth mentioning that the co-main event will be between Mikiah Kreps (7-0) and Melissa Odessa Parker (6-2).
Arnold Gonzalez’s current status
New York native, Arnold Steven Gonzalez, will face his second fight of 2024, he started the year winning by unanimous decision at Madison Square Garden against his compatriot, Charles Stanford (7-6). In June he won by unanimous decision over Colombian Alejandro Munera (8-9-4) and before the end of the year, in October in Ecuador he defeated local Edwin Bennett (16-6).
Gonzalez (14-0 / 6 KO), 29 years old, accumulates a low knockout percentage of 42%. However, he has four consecutive wins over South American opponents, although this will be the first time he will face a Venezuelan native.
Current status of Esneiker Correa
Born in Los Teques, Miranda State, Venezuela, Esneiker Jesus Correa, returns to the ring after little activity in recent years, since 2020 he has only disputed four fights and will seek this time his first victory in North America.
In his last appearance in the ring at the end of last year, he lost by knockout in the second round in Moscow against the local Emir Basirov (10-0). Likewise, in mid 2022 he lost in the Fedecentro super welterweight title fight by knockout to Derrieck Cuevas (27-1-1). It should be noted that his last victory so far was in Ecuador by knockout against his compatriot, Johan Sosa (2-14-1).
Correa (15-4-1/13 KO), 25, has a knockout percentage above 80% but is on a three-fight win streak, including a win in Russia and two losses in his most recent outings.
