“We do not yet know yet who our next opponent will be on September 14, but we’ll know within two weeks,” Alvarez said at a press conference and WBA belting ceremony on Tuesday in Panama. “I’ll fight Mayweather at my weight. I can’t go lower than 154 pounds because at that weight I feel good.” Canelo also ruled out a rematch with Austin Trout, saying, “we are thinking about other things.”

WBA vice president Gilberto J. Mendoza told Alvarez, “It’s an honor for us to have you in our ranks, and hopefully you’ll be a champion that is part of our family for a long time.”

Alvarez responded, “I’m very happy to be here (in Panama) in addition to receiving this important belt.”
