Undoubtedly, one the greatest figures in boxing is Rocky Marciano, who was born 90 years ago with the name of Rocco Francis Marchegiano, so today marks birth occurred in 1923 in the United States.
He started in boxing at the age of 21, in the US army, and in 1947 he became professional.
His record speaks for itself. He retired undefeated with 43 KO’s he was the Heavyweight champion from September 23, 1952 when he defeated Jersey Joe Walcott by KO in 13, and defended his championship in six occasions.
Marciano announced retirement on April 27, 1956, with a record of 49-0, 43 KO’s.
A very interesting fact is that Marciano died on the eve of his 46th birthday; he was flying as passenger in a small airplane that crashed near Newton, Iowa, USA.
