Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk will feature the most important fight in the world arena during the month of September. With 10 days to go before the showdown, fans are already beginning to turn their attention to this bout that will have the World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Heavyweight Championship at stake, in addition to the IBF and WBO belts.
Joshua will be in the second defense of his crown. Although he has long reigned at heavyweight, he lost his title in June 2019 to Andy Ruiz and regained it in a rematch in December 2019. Since then he has made one defense against Kubrat Pulev and will now go against a rather tough opponent.
Usyk will have his first big challenge in the heavyweight division after dominating the cruiserweights at will. Since he moved up in the division, he has fought two fights against Chazz Witherspoon and Derek Chisora, so he has earned the right to challenge the current three-time champion.
Matchroom Boxing’s promotional activities for the fight will officially begin next Monday. Joshua comes in with a record of 24 wins, 1 loss and 22 knockouts, while Usyk has 18 wins, 1 loss and 13 knockouts.
