Puerto Rican ring official Luis Pabon will work his 100th world title fight on Saturday in Panama at the WBA Ko To Drugs. The 44-year-old Pabon will have refereed 75 world title fights as a referee and 25 world title fights as a judge . “I love boxing,” says Pabon. “I never thought I’d go that far, but after much effort and dedication it’s very nice. I want to do my best for the sport and work with all organizations. Protecting the life of a boxer and having a good and honest fight is always my goal in every match.” Pabon began in amateur boxing in 1990 with a desire to participate in the Olympic or Panamerican Games as a judge. However, a year later he signed on with the Puerto Rico Boxing Commission and entered the professional game. His first world title fight came in 1993, when at age 27 judged the WBO fight between Leeonzer Barber and Andrea Magi. The same year Pabon judged a his first WBA title fight between Martin Coggi and Elder Gonzalez. In 1994, he made his debut as a referee in the IBF title clash between John John Molina and Wilson Rodriguez. He is scheduled to referee this weekend’s WBA Cruiserweight title between Guillermo Jones vs Valery Brudov.
