The fight between American Chris Colbert and Dominican Hector Garcia will be a World Boxing Association (WBA) super featherweight final eliminator after a joint approval by the Championships Committee and the Rankings Committee.
The winner of the bout, which will take place this Saturday, February 26 at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, will have the right to face the champion of the category, Roger Gutierrez in his next fight. In the event of a draw, it will be Colbert who will challenge the 130-pound champion due to his previous status as interim champion.
Colbert and Garcia are two fighters who meet the requirements to fight a final elimination bout and for that reason the fight was approved. Colber cannot fight Gutierrez because the former tested positive for Covid 19.
Due to this situation, the pioneer organization decided to approve this fight at the last minute in a resolution sent to the parties.
