World Boxing Association (WBA) minimum lightweight champion, Monserrat Alarcon, will unify her belt with WBO champion, Japanese Yulo Kuroki, on August 5 at the Central Gym in Kobe, Japan.
The bout was made official this week and will put two of the best fighters of the category face to face in a very interesting fight in which the winner will become the unified champion.
Alarcon has been champion since August 2018 when she defeated Mayela Perez to retain the crown. Since then she has made three defenses and this will be the fourth occasion in which she will defend her belt. She has also made other non-title bouts, which means she has been very active and is ready for this big challenge.
Kuroki had been a world minimumweight champion in the past but recently moved down a weight class and captured the WBO light minimumweight crown by defeating Nanae Suzuki in September 2022. She granted her a rematch in March and defeated her again to earn her first defense, so now she will be in the second exhibition of her belt.
The bout promises to be tough and very competitive. Alarcon has a record of 18 wins, 4 losses and 2 draws, while Suzuki has 21 wins, 7 losses, 2 draws and 9 knockouts.
