Julissa Alejandra Guzman gave a great show at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans last Saturday and defeated Ramla Ali by knockout to win the World Boxing Association (WBA) Continental Americas super bantamweight belt.
The Mexican upset her opponent in the eighth round with one of the best knockouts of the year and is now the regional champion of the pioneer organization after defeating an unbeaten fighter who was the overwhelming favorite this weekend.
Guzman had already shown what her punching power was capable of by the fifth round when she punched Ali in the face and sent her to the canvas. However, the Briton bounced back and stayed in the fight trying to recover and defend her record.
In the eighth, an exchange of blows ended with a short left hook by the Latin American that crashed into the British fighter’s chin and sent her to the canvas with no ability to recover to seal one of the most eye-catching knockouts of the year and an extremely important victory for the Mexican’s career.
With this victory, Guzman left her record at 13 wins, 2 losses, 2 draws and 7 knockouts, while Ali now has 8 wins and 1 loss.
