Jonathan Alonso wrestled for 10 rounds with Zoravor Petrosian on Saturday and won a close unanimous decision victory to become the new World Boxing Association Continental Europe belt at the Wizink Center in Madrid, Spain.
“Maravilla” took advantage of his home motivation and brought out the best of his boxing to fight with confidence and win a 96-94, 96-94 and 97-93 decision.
It was a special day for Spanish boxing as there were some quality fights and the important WBA European belt was disputed, which added a plus to the event in the country’s capital.
Alonso, a native of the Dominican Republic, but of Spanish nationality and with great experience in professional boxing, was the star of the show with his victory over the tough Ukrainian challenger. He gave great moments in a very entertaining fight that went the distance and kept everyone present at the Palacio de Combates in tension.
With the victory, Alonso improves his professional record to 23 wins and 2 losses, with 7 knockouts. Zoravor now has 13 wins, 3 losses and 5 knockouts.
