The Gilberto Mendoza International Boxing Festival will have a stop in Barranquilla, Colombia, this March 25. With the participation of all the leagues of the Caribbean, the event, which is in its seventh edition, will commemorate the seventh anniversary of the death of the president emeritus of the World Boxing Association (WBA) at the Sugar Baby Rojas Combat Palace.
The Atlantico League could not miss as the host department of the event and will be accompanied by those of Bolivar, Sucre, Cordoba, Cesar, Guajira, Magdalena and the military league of the Armed Forces, in an exchange of talent of fighters from different categories.
Gilberto Mendoza Festival’s timing is ideal for many reasons. Mainly because all the leagues are preparing for the qualifiers for the National Games and this event will allow them to have a good rubbing in the face of these challenges. In addition, it guarantees that each one will bring the best talent available and there will be fights between the most outstanding fighters of each department.
The Gilberto Mendoza Festival is in its seventh edition. It was created as a way to pay tribute to the former head of the oldest boxing organization in the world, who passed away in 2016. Since 2017 it has been held simultaneously in different venues, with Venezuela as the main one, while it has had events in Panama and the United States.
The Colombian Boxing Federation (Fecolbox) is working with the District Sports Secretary of Barranquilla, the company Alberto Agámez Producciones and Gimnasio Cuadrilátero Élite to carry out a high-level event with the best of the country’s young talent. The Gilberto Mendoza Festival is also endorsed by the WBA and this year is also taking place in Venezuela since March 11.
