Conor Benn and Sebastian Formella went face to face at the official press conference before their fight this Saturday at the Wembley Arena. Benn will defend the World Boxing Association (WBA) Continental Welterweight title against the German, and they both spoke about their expectations for the fight.
Benn is a young fighter of only 24 years old, but with two defenses of the regional belt of the pioneer organization, and is looking for great opportunities in the future. The Briton is going to a trial by fire; he has fought hard to get where he is and assured that he does not intend to fail.
The champion was very emotional because he has had to be away from his family in recent years to achieve his dream. With tears in his eyes, he expressed how much he misses them and how that has affected him personally, but all of that will have been worth it if he achieves his goal.
“On Saturday night I will take that frustration out on my opponent. I’ve worked too hard to get to where I am now to let it slip between my fingers”, he said.
“To many, I’m a role model. To the older generation, I will always be Nigel Benn’s son, but the younger generation says to him: ‘Oh, you are Conor Benn’s dad!”, he assured about being the son of a legend like Nigel Benn.
For his part, Formella was calm and confident. He has the necessary experience to be considered a dangerous rival and comes from his hardest fight against the renowned Shawn Porter.
“It’s been cool in the bubble! This will be a good fight, I’m ready for this test”, said the challenger from Germany.
Tomorrow, both boxers will have to pass the last test before the fight, which is the weigh-in ceremony. Once they hit the scales at 147 pounds or less, they will be ready for the weekend’s showdown.
