On Thursday, April 14, many personalities of the world of boxing will be attending the Memorial Mass to be held in Panama City in memory of Don Gilberto Mendoza, President Emeritus of the World Boxing Association.
Promoters Akihiko Honda, Ricardo Rizzo, Sampson Lewkowicz, Salvatore Cherchi, and many others, wanted to come to honor what Mr. Mendoza did in life, how he sought the good in everyone he met, and devoted himself to improving every aspect of the fight game.
Among the boxers attending the Mass are Roberto “Hands of Stone” Duran, Sugar Shane Mosley and Jorge Linares. They too want to celebrate the memory of Don Gilberto who, among other things, was always concerned about the safety of the boxers and lobbied for better pay for “the real stars of this sport,” as he always said.
