Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez had another memorable night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and retained his World Boxing Association (WBA) super middleweight belt with a unanimous decision win over Edgar Berlanga last weekend.
A dominant fight in the ring was complemented by a packed house that proved boxing is still at the top of its game and that Alvarez remains the sport’s biggest name.
The Mexican met a strong opponent in Berlanga and had to work hard to defeat the Puerto Rican. He managed to knock him down in the third round with a left hook to the jaw and thus set the course of a fight with good exchanges where ‘Canelo’ was able to take the initiative until the end.
It was another great performance for Alvarez, who also retained the WBO and WBC belts to continue reigning at 168 pounds and offer a great show to all present.
Canelo’s record now stands at 62 wins, 2 losses, 2 draws and 39 knockouts, while Berlanga’s record stands at 22 wins and 1 loss.
