Saul Alvarez will return to the middleweight division to defend his title of Super Champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA) against Daniel Jacobs. As usual, May 5th is “Canelo” day and Guadalajara will be represented at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas to honor its people of Mexican heritage while trying to retain the black and gold belt.
The Mexican native comes off of a fight in the super middleweight division in which he beat Rocky Fielding and captured the WBA belt of that weight category. Now, he will return to the weight that has seen him put in his best performances and will do so in one of the best possible matchups against “The Miracle Man”. Alvarez will make his first bout of 2019 after beating Gennady Golovkin in September of last year to win the 160-pound title.
This will be the first defense for Canelo, the top star of the sport. In front him will be Jacobs, one of the boxers most loved by boxing fans and an example of struggle and perseverance. Experts and fans have many expectations about the fight because they believe that Jacobs is the kind of fighter that can cause many problems for Alvarez.
The New York native and cancer survivor has experience against top-level rivals, including the Kazakhstan native Gennady Golovkin, who he faced in 2017 in a fight where he revealed some deficiencies of GGG when no one seemed to be able to beat him. In spite of the defeat, Jacobs warned the respect of fans of that confrontation and made it clear to the big names of the division the danger he represents for them.
