There is no doubt that 2017 has two great protagonists. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin promise to make the best fight of the year on September 16th when they go in the ring in Las Vegas, where the World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Championship will be at stake.
The Mexican will have to face the most complicated rival of his career and, during his teleconference with media from all the world, he spoke about the fight that boxing fans are talking about.
“I am happy and enthusiastic, ready for this challenge and prepared to give you a great fight”, was the first thing Canelo told journalists.
“It’s a fight in which we both have power, we both have attractive styles and we’re both going to fight a fight where anybody can win by knockout”, he continued.
The fight has aroused many people’s expectations because of the parity of the fighters and it is said that it could be one of the great wars of the Middleweights in history, like those of the times of Marvin Hagler or Bernard Hopkins. Alvarez agrees: “Without a doubt, this can be one of the best fights in history. On paper, obviously, it’s going to rival some of those big fights, but it really depends on how the fight comes out, how it pans out. I’m going to do my part to make it memorable so it can go down in history as one of the best fights”.
“Canelo” has stood out for being an ambitious boxer and always looking to demolish his opponents. Although he has to face one of the toughest rivals of the division in the recent years, he does not stop thinking about the possibility of knocking him out. “I think a fighter always dreams with a knockout because it is more spectacular and, of course, I would like to win by knockout”, he replied.
“There are some weaknesses that we have always seen and we are going to take advantage of that on September 16th, that’s what we are working for”, he said about the Kazakh.
Canelo is remembered for his fight against Floyd Mayweather, in which he could not do too much before a skilled and experienced opponent, but he assures that he is now a very different boxer.
“I’ve learned a lot in that time, I am a more mature and more confident boxer, and that’s because of what I’ve learned thanks to those fights I’ve done”, added Alvarez.
