The World Boxing Association (WBA) congratulates Saúl Álvarez for his award as best boxer of the year 2021, which was granted by the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA).
The Mexican boxer won the so-called “Sugar Ray Robinson” award in an election that included fighters such as Nonito Donaire, Tyson Fury, Josh Taylor, Oleksandr Usyk and Stephen Fulton.
It was an excellent 2021 for Canelo, who became undisputed 168-pound champion after defeating Avni Yildirim, Billy Joe Saunders and Caleb Plant consecutively to win the missing belts in his collection.
In addition, Eddy Reynoso, leader of Team Canelo, won the awards for trainer of the year and manager of the year. A great reward for what the Mexican trainer has done with Alvarez and other great fighters such as Oscar Valdez, Frank Sanchez, among others.
For its part, the third fight between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder last October was considered the best of the year, while announcer David Diamante was recognized with the Good Guy award.
