Jono Carroll won the World Boxing Association (WBA) super featherweight eliminator fight against Andy Vences and stepped towards a world title shot on Saturday night after scoring a majority decision at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida.

The Irish figther made a great performance in the United States against a tough opponent like Vences and won the judges’ scorecards by 97-93, 97-93 and 95-95.

It was a tough fight for the Briton, who had to deal with a Vences who stood toe to toe with him. The American was strong and determined to win the fight, so Carroll had to use all his tools and bring out his heart to get the win.

The 29-year-old fighter had to deal with a cut on one of his eyelids but finally got the result that will help him challenge for a world title in the short term.

The Dublin native’s record improved to 29 wins, 2 losses, 1 draw and 5 knockouts, while Vences dropped his record to 23 wins, 3 losses, 1 draw and 12 knockouts.
