In the closing of the KO Drugs gala, the World Boxing Association 112 lbs. female title was disputed between Argentina’s Clara Lescurat and Mexico’s Maribel Ramirez. After ten rounds, the jury gave a split decision in favor of Lescurat, who became the new champion of the division on Friday night under the lights of the Casino of Buenos Aires.
The fight was a close one for these two fighters who featured the main event of the night. The Mexican came to Buenos Aires as the owner of the crown and determined to remain so, so she came out, from the first round, in a constant siege of the young challenger.
Despite some messy passages in the crosses, the Argentinean boxer managed to sustain her counter-punching strategy, trying to keep her distance that allowed her to hit and go with fast movements. But Ramirez’s pressure was incessant and Lescurat knew how to solve it.
Maribel Ramirez had conquered the black and gold sash in 2018 against Linda Leca. This was her third defense, but Lescurat managed to prevail to take the victory.
Now, Ramirez’s record dropped to 13 wins with 3 knockouts, 10 defeats and 3 draws. While the former member of the Argentinean amateur team, Lescurat, increased her numbers to 7 wins with 3 knockouts and is the new super flyweight champion of the pioneer organization.
