Chris Colbert showed that he is one of the top prospects in the Junior Lightweight defeating Panama´s Jezreel Corrales by unanimous decision. The Brooklyn native had to use all of his resources to beat Corrales and conquer the WBA Interim Belt in the 130 pounds division in a bout celebrated at The Liacouras Center of Philadelphia Pennsylvania this Saturday night,
The scorecards were 116-111, 117-110 and 117-110 which prove that he won with amplitude, however, the bout was far from being an easy one for the 23 year old fighter, who tried his best in order to take some advantage through the rounds, earning a much elaborated victory.
The beginning was difficult, “Prime Time” had to be cautious with Corrales´s attacks, although he managed well his defense, and he looked reserved in his attack. Colbert was becoming more confident through the rounds taking advantage of his higher reach and height to dominate the fight in the medium range.
Even though Colbert dominated the rounds, Corrales was an experienced fighter who knows how to adapt situations. Colbert struggled in rounds six and seven when Corrales was able to connect his best punches and got those rounds.
The following rounds were the best ones for Colbert, who was able to come back to the fight and worked well using his jab and long punches. The recovery capacity shown by Colbert stands out keeping the calm in the tense moments that made him become the new champion.
In the 10th round Colbert knocked Corrales down when he was trying to pull himself out of a clinch, leaning the scale to his favor fading away any doubt of his win.
Colbert new record is 14 wins, no losses, and 5 Knockouts, meanwhile Corrales record is 23 wins, 4 losses and 9 knockouts
