Chris Colbert added another dominant performance to his record and defended his WBA interim super featherweight title for the second time against Mongolian Tugstsogt Nyambayar on Saturday night at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
The judges’ scorecards were 117-111, 118-110 and 118-110 for the WBA champion.
“Prime Time,” as the 24-year-old fighter is nicknamed, used his jab well throughout the bout and came in with quick combinations to take the upper hand in most rounds.
He was up against a tough and insistent challenger in Nyambayar, who kept attacking and cornered the champion on several occasions with his power punches and incisive attack. However, Colbert’s boxing quality got the better of him and as the rounds wore on, his superiority became more and more apparent.
The Brooklyn native scored his 16th victory to stay undefeated, while he has knocked out 6 opponents. Nyambayar has a record of 12 wins, 2 losses and 9 knockouts.
