Former World Boxing Association champion, Ray Boom Boom Mancini celebrates a new birthday, and we wish to send him our warmest greetings.
Raymond Michael Mancino was born in Ohio on March 4, 1961 and got involved in boxing from a very young age.
He became a WBA champion on May 8, 1982, when he defeated Arturo Frias in New York. His first defence was against the Korean Duk Koo Kim, who passed away after the fight.
Mancini was never the same in the ring, although he continued boxing and managed to make five defenses more before Ernesto “El Gato” George Feeney, Orlando Romero, Jhonny Torres, Spain, Bobby Chacón and fell on June 1, 1984 against Livingstone Bramble, who gave him the rematch the following February but the result was against Mancini.
At present, Mancini is an businessman and speaks of his experience as a boxer, especially in light of the tragedy he lived with Koo Kim, to help create consciousness in athletes and their preparation.
