Oscar De La Hoya HB 2014The World Boxing Association congratulates Oscar de la Hoya, who celebrates its 41st birthday today. He is an example of constant perseverance and growth.

He was born in Los Angeles, in 1973 with Mexican descent, and in 1992 became Olympic gold medal, and dedicated his victory to his mother who had died of breast cancer.

He earned the affection and respect of the public not only for his boxing performance, but also for his personality getting the “Golden Boy” nick name.

Soon after the Olympics, he began his professional career to reach a record of 39 wins, 30 of them by knockouts, with 6 losses.

Besides he be won 10 championships in in six different divisions, and fought great boxing figures like Jimmy Bredahl, Julio César Chávez, Felix “Tito” Trinidad, Pernell Whitaker, Héctor “macho” Camacho, Shane Mosley, Felix Sturm, Bernard Hopkins, Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao among others.

After his retirement, he became promoter and leads Golden Boy Promotion.
