Three boxers members of the World Boxing Association Family are celebrating their birthday today, Derrick Gainer, Jorge “Niño de Oro” Linares y Félix Machado. Congratulations to all of them.
For 42 years, was born in Pensacola, Florida, Derrick Gainer, who won the WBA featherweight title on September 9, 2000, when he beat Freddie Norwood. Later he was defeated by Juan Manuel Marquez in a super championship belt fight, in 2003.
Also in 1972, was born Machado, but in Venezuela. He won the IBF title when he defeated Julio Gamboa on July 22, 2000 and successfully defended it three times until 2003. He was always linked to the WBA family, and has been great ally for all activities for the sport.
Of the Birthday trio, only the youngest from Barinitas, Venezuela, is still active and waiting for the chance to become three time champion. Linares is 29 years old, and has already been the WBC featherweight champion in 2007 and the WBA Super Featherweight in 2008.
Congratulations to all of them and thank them for being great allies of the WBA family.
