Dennis Contreras defended his World Boxing Association (WBA) Fedecentro Featherweight title with a 10th round technical knockout victory over Hairon Socarras on Friday night.
The bout held at the KO Addiction Boxing & Fitness Center, in Plan City, Florida, had a lot of action between the Mexican champion and the Cuban challenger, who had an interesting fight with a great ending.
Contreras managed to knock down Socarras in the third round but had to deal with the good boxing style of the Caribbean boxer, who knew how to counterattack during the intermediate rounds to score points on the judges’ scorecards.
However, it was in the tenth round when the veteran Guadalajaran was able to definitely hurt Socarras, who fell to the canvas and, although he tried to get back up, the referee did not allow him to continue when he saw his bad condition.
It was the second defense of the regional belt for Contreras, a veteran of a thousand battles who wants to move up in the boxing world and get better opportunities. The Mexican improved his record to 24 wins, 10 losses, 1 draw, and 22 KOs, while Socarras dropped to 23 wins, 2 losses, 3 draws, and 15 KOs.
