The World Boxing Association interim featherweight champion Jesus Cuellar is already in Las Vegas, ready for his next defense against the former champion Juan Manuel Lopez on Thursday.
His opponent is also waiting for the official weigh-in. “I didn’t come here to throw to the canvas or to do a poor fight. If the boy (Cuellar) wants to beat me he will have to fight,” were the words of Juanma Lopez, said to the Puerto Rican press.
The Argentinean Cuellar’s record is 24-1, 18 KO’s and Lopez’s is 34-4, 31 KO’s, will be refereed by Tony Weeks, and the judges are Adelaide Byrd, Burt Clements and Glen Trowbridge. The WBA announce that the supervisor will be Julio Thyme.
This is the second interim defense of Cuellar, who told the press that face Lopez calmly, recognized it as a good opponent, and assured that the goal is to run boxing.
“He is a very experienced boxer with a strong punch. He was the world champion”, he said and also stated that he is well prepared physically and mentally, and he expects to win the fight.
