Daniel Matellón conquered the World Boxing Association (WBA) Light Flyweight belt defeating by majority decision to the Mexican Erik “Habanerito” López in the Roberto Duran Arena in the 36th edition of KO TO DRUGS putting a great performance.

The scoring cards were 114-114 and 116-112 twice in favor of the Cuban fighter, who managed to defeat the though Mexican warrior.

Matellón took advantage of his height and reach to work the distance and got the best during the first rounds, in fact, Matellón was able to make López go backwards, and he is known mostly for going forward all the time.

Never the less, “Habanerito” López knew how to change his strategy in the middle rounds, in which he managed to counter and surprise his opponent in several occasions. Lopez worked with strong curved punches, putting himself back into the fight.

Finally, Matellón knew well how to end up strong during the last rounds, taking a second breath in order to get the judges scoring cards.

The Cuban fighter now has a record of 11 victories, 0 losses, 1 draw, and 6 Kos, meanwhile López now holds a record of 14 wins, 5 losses, 1 draw, and 10 Kos.
