Daniel Roman scored his 26th professional victory and tenth via stoppage over Gavin McDonnell in the tenth round to retain his World Boxing Association (WBA) World Super Bantamweight Championship.
The fight took place at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago with Roman defending his WBA world title for the third time after winning it in September of 2017 over Shun Kubo.
The fight itself was a good one, with Roman having the upper hand for the majority of the fight but McDonnell having a surge in the eighth and ninth rounds after his corner told him that he was behind.
McDonnell upped his work rate in an attempt to gain the upper hand in the fight but it was at a cost, as he opened himself up more and started to both run out of energy and take more damage while trying to turn the fight around.
In the tenth round McDonnell landed a beauty of a right hand followed by a flurry of punches that eventually dropped the challenger. He rose to his feet, surprisingly, but the bout was waved off by the referee when it was obvious that he could not continue.
With the victory Roman becomes even more of a force in the division as he is gaining experience and staying a very active fighter.
