For the WBA January Boxer of the month, the interim 135 lbs lightweight champion, Colombian Darleys Perez his country is regaining status of relevance in boxing.
He told journalist Carlos Mendoza Silvera, published by the website Boxeo de Colombia, “Colombia sounds again in the boxing world, not like before, but we are getting back,” said the Colombian fighter.
And is that at present, the country has eight fighters within the WBA rankings, including him and Oscar Escandon another interim champion,
The Colombians within the ratings are: 108 lbs minimum (1), in 118 lbs bantam (1), 122 lbs super bantam (2), 126 lbs. feather (1), 130 lbs super feather (2) and 135 lbs lightweight (1).
Perez also said he was very happy for the news, “it is one more achievement and things that motivates us to continue fighting in this difficult sport, but we like it, and that here we make our family support.”
According to the website, Perez knows the great work he made in his fight against the Peruvian Jonathan Maicelo, in California, first defense of his belt and won, that earned him the recognition as a boxer of the month.
However, the Colombian assures that he will continue working must continue to achieve more things in boxing.
