This Saturday, April 21st, Gervonta Davis (19-0, 18KO’s) and Jesus Cuellar (28-2, 21KO’s) will be squaring off at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.  The World Boxing Association (WBA) Super World Super Featherweight Title will be on the line for the highly anticipated fight.

Today was the final press conference for the triple header card that the fight will be taking place on and it was held right where the fights will be on Saturday at the Barclays Center.  The entire card will be aired this Saturday on Showtime premium cable network.

Gervonta Davis is coming off a win over Francisco Fonseca in August of 2017 where he was stripped of his previous title for coming in overweight, saying “I had a lot of distractions last camp that led to me missing weight. From that day forward I was focused on getting back to a world title shot. I let people down when I lost the title on the scale, but now I’m more focused.”

For this fight Davis got out of Baltimore, away from the distractions that he was having in previous camps that led to him coming in overweight.

“It was great being in camp in Florida instead of back home in Baltimore. This way it’s only boxing that I’m worried about each day. I’m eating right and really just 100 percent focused on boxing. It was a great move and it’ll show on Saturday.”

Davis has a lot of skills and talent but some people have been wondering if he is going to end up more along the lines of his buddy Adrien Broner, rather than a truly elite fighter at the top of the sport.  To this, Gervonta claims that his head is on right and he is 100% back.

“I’ve been training so hard with Adrien in camp. We’ve been pushing each other and I just want to be able to look back at this fight and be able to say this was one of my best performances. I want to show that I have the skills and ability to take over the sport of boxing.”

Cuellar, on the other hand, of course has his own idea of walking away with the title, saying “The plan is to go out there and win that belt. We’ve had great training and sparring to get us in this position. My coaches worked really hard to get me ready.”

Cuellar took some time away from the sport with his last fight being a split decision loss to Abner Mares in December of 2016.  He feels that the time off was needed and only made him stronger in the end.  He has no regrets about his layoff and is simply ready to fight.

Cuellar reiterated multiple times throughout the final press conference that it was going to be a war and a great fight, at one point saying “This is going to be all action. Expect to see a war with me raising my hand at the end of the night. I’m going to do whatever it takes.”

In the end Cuellar is very excited to potentially become a two weight world champion with the WBA and is ready to lay it all on the line in the ring on Saturday to get the victory.

“This fight is very important for me. I want to become a two-division world champion and I have the chance I’ve waited for on Saturday night.”
