Demetrius Andrade traveled to Germany with a goal set and fully fulfilled it by becoming the new Super Welterweight Champion of the World Boxing Association, with a split decision victory against the Ecuadorian-German, Jack Culcay.
The fight meant for Andrade the first time he left his native United States and his first chance to win a World Belt. The cards favored him 114-115, 116-112 and 116-112, with which he maintained his undefeated at the Friedrich-Ebert-Halle arena, of Rheinland-Pfalz.
Andrade and Culcay gave a very disputed fight in which the North American took the best part. It was the main ceremony of an evening filled with good boxing and dedicated to President Emeritus Gilberto Mendoza, a year after his physical disappearance.
The current leader of the body, Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, received a series of recognitions on behalf of his father and thanked for the willingness and courtesy of the organizers of this great event.
Andrade improved his record to 24 wins, no knockdowns, and 16 KOs, while the now former Champion Culcay left a record of 22 points, two setbacks and 11 KOs.
