Light Heavyweight Super Champion, the Russian Dmitry Bivol, and the President of the World Boxing Association (WBA), Gilberto Jesús Mendoza, held an online press conference to talk about his victory against Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez and other topics related to boxing and his career.
With a large presence of journalists from all over the world, the 175 lbs. champion shared with Mendoza different anecdotes and impressions of one of the best fights of his career.
The President thanked Bivol for proudly wearing the belt for so long. The monarch has been with the pioneer organization for a long time, starting when he was Interim Champion, then Champion, and Super Champion, the only one in the category at the moment.
Regarding his fight with Alvarez, Bivol highlighted that it was one of the most complicated of his career from a mental point of view. Having his opponent as the overwhelming favorite and everyone betting on the champion’s defeat was something he had to work on to stay strong, he told those present.
He also talked about his plans and said he has not yet defined his next step. Among his options is a fight against the winner between Beterbiev and Smith, plus a rematch against Alvarez, which he would be willing to do at 168 pounds if all the belts in that category are put on the line.
Now, Bivol will rest while retaining his Super Champion status, with a long reign that has been extended. He is one of the most solid champions today and one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world.
