Today, promoter Don King celebrates a new year of life. He has been a great ally and part of the World Boxing Association family, and we send our warmest greeting.
He was born 83 years ago in Cleveland, Ohio, United States, he began to build his name among the great boxing promoters when he convinced Muhammad Ali to participate in a charity exhibition. After that he made an alliance with a famous local promoter named Don Elbaum.
He was the man who managed to make the historical heavy Championship fight between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman in Kinshasa, Zaire, in 1974, for the record amount at that time of 10 million dollars.
Since then Don King has remained linked to boxing, becoming one of the most successful promoters, reinventing himself and being a true figure for fans.
Congratulations to our great friend Don King.
