The father/trainer of five division world champion and reigning WBA featherweight super champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire feels that once regular champion Nicholas Walters of Jamaica “feels the power of Nonito’s punches he might run.”
Nonito “Dodong” Donaire Sr told BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard/Viva Sports that Nonito sparred twelve rounds with Guy Robb for the third time on Monday im LA and had “no problems with his stamina. He’s like normal.”
The 25 year old featherweight Robb has a record 14-1 with 6 knockouts and in his last fight on August 22 scored a 3rd round knockout over previously unbeaten Ronell Green who entered the ring with a record of 5 knockouts in 10 wins.
The father/trainer stressed that Donaire “is in shape and unlike the last Vic Darchinyan fight he has no injuries at all.”
Donaire “boxed well” in sparring even as his father/trainer indicated Nonito is ready for anything Walters brings after the undefeated Jamaican who has a record of 20 knockouts in 24 wins boasted that he would knock Donaire out in five or six rounds.
“Dodong” Donaire reminded us that Nonito himself hits hard and he will be prepared “to mix it up” when he faces Walters at the StubHub Center in Carson City, California on October 18 in a fight to be telecast by the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN on Sunday the 19th over Channel 2 at 10:15 a.m.
