The Mexican Erik “Habanerito” Lopez arrived in Barranquilla on Tuesday for his match against Venezuelan Gilbert Gonzalez on the undercard that will take place this Saturday at Sugar Baby Rojas, billed under the Explosive Test card.
“I’m just arriving but the little I’ve seen is that Barranquilla is a very beautiful city. I am very motivated by this great opportunity to have this great fight on July 6th”, was the first thing expressed by Lopez.
The intention of the Mexican native is to fight for a world title soon and he knows that this fight can be a big step in that goal.
“It’s going to be a test because this fight can show if I’m ready to go for a title. We do not know when or where but I know that soon I will have that opportunity,” he said.
On Gonzalez, his rival on duty, “Habanerito” was cautious but also sure of himself and the work he has put in to get the victory.
“He’s a dangerous opponent and he does not trust me, but I do feel confident about my preparation. I think he’s a strong opponent, I’ve seen him and I’ve analyzed him to be able to beat him,” he continued.
The pupil of Rigoberto “Spanish” Alvarez, also thanked the World Boxing Association (WBA) for the opportunity: “I thank Gilberto Jesus Mendoza for the opportunity. I’m just going to meet him but he was the one who gave me the opportunity and I assure you that this is going to be one of the best fights on the card.”
