By the resounding achievements, the Mexican, Erika “Dinamita” Cruz, has been chosen as the revelation boxer of the World Boxing Association in 2021.
Proud of her country, Erika Cruz arrived in the United States in April to fulfill a dream: to become a world champion. In New York, on April 22, 2021, Cruz dominated a challenging bout against the former champion in three different weight divisions, Canadian Jelena Mrdjenovich. Cruz became the new 126-pound champion. There were seven rounds and the referee stopped the fight after an accidental headbutt that led to a bleeding in Jelena’s face, added to the offensive efficiency of the Aztec boxer who, up to that moment, was still the winner in the judges’ scorecards.
Member of the Mexican National Guard, law student, first woman to give the country a Pan American medal in 2011, Érika proudly wears her championship belt, showing the world that dreams can come true.
After that great triumph, she was called to be part of the Matchroom Boxing ranks, with Eddie Hearn at the helm. In November, she successfully made her first world defense against fellow countrywoman Melissa Esquivel. In total, “Dinamita” Cruz, accumulates 14 victories of which 3 have been by knockout and only one defeat in her second professional fight in 2016.
