Boxer Marlén Esparza will seek to defend her World Boxing Association flyweight reign in a rematch against Argentina’s Celeste Alaniz on April 27 in California.
The first time both fighters clashed gloves in the ring was on July 8, 2023. Since then, there has been no end of talk of a rematch, as the fight was a true bid for talent.
After several negotiations back and forth, the reunion has been finalized with great expectations.
Marlén Esparza won the black and gold belt on April 9, 2022 after defeating Naoko Fujioka and successfully defended it 4 months later as well as in July last year against Alaniz.
Esparza and Alaniz put on a show worthy of a world championship bout, taking center stage for almost the entire bout with power exchanges that made it a close decision. Now, both will have the opportunity to show who is the winner of the belts that will be on the line.
Alaniz was WBO flyweight champion from 2022 to 2023 when she lost to Esparza and is one of the great stars of Argentinean women’s boxing. Her record is 14 wins with 6 knockouts and 1 loss and the same is the record of the Mexican-American Marlén Esparza with the difference that of the 14 fights won, Esparza has won only 1 by knockout and the only loss was in the much remembered war with Seniesa Estrada.
