The World Boxing Association regrets the death of sports legend Jake LaMotta. The legendary boxer passed away on Wednesday, September 20, at the age of 95, as his daughter announced on her social media.

LaMotta was suffering complications from pneumonia and died at his home in New York. He was one of the greatest boxers in history and left a footprint in the rings.

The American boxer of Italian descent was World Middleweight Champion in 1949, when he defeated French Marcel Cerdan by TKO in 10 rounds. In addition to that fight, the “Raging Bull”, as he was nicknamed due to his aggressive style, had six fights against Sugar Ray Robinson. Although he only won one of those six, those fights have been remembered for years because of their meaning.

Beyond being a good, brave and aggressive boxer, LaMotta is an icon. The film “Raging Bull”, inspired by him, is one of the most outstanding in boxing.

During his career, from 1941 to 1954, he won 83 fights, lost 19 and drew 4. 30 of his victories were by knockout. The WBA family thanks him for his legacy. May Jake LaMotta rest in peace.
