Venezuelan Keiver Fernandez retained his World Boxing Association (WBA) Fedelatin belt with a unanimous decision 98-92, 97-93 and 97-93 over Guatemalan Pablo Macario in Los Andes Mall, Panama City.
The bout put face to face two young and highly motivated opponents who gave the audience a nice fight. The champion, who was in the first defense of his regional championship, took advantage of his height and reach advantage to keep the Central American away and it served him well during most of the fight.
Fernandez withstood Macario’s pressure for most of the fight and was able to put his best boxing to prevent the Guatemalan from catching him in most of the rounds. He worked well with his combinations, hit to the body and thus was scoring to get the victory.
With this victory, Fernandez improved his record to 25 wins, 1 loss, 1 draw and 13 knockouts, while Macaria dropped his to 7 wins, 3 losses and 4 knockouts.
